Kristen Powell, M.D.
Dr. Kristen Powell attended Roanoke College before earning her medical degree in 1997 from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University. She stayed at MCV to complete both her Pediatrics residency (2000) and a fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine (2003). Dr. Powell is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics sections on both Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine and Adoption and Foster Care.
In addition to general pediatrics Dr. Powell’s medical interests include care of the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) graduate and care of the medically fragile child. As an adoptive parent, she enjoys working on international and domestic adoption and foster care. Dr. Powell has been recognized by the Virginia Breastfeeding Taskforce as a Breastfeeding Champion. She serves as the medical director for the Friends of Barnabas foundation, committed to medical care for the children of Honduras. She makes trips to the region to provide medical care on a regular basis.
Dr. Powell lives in Glen Allen with her three teenage daughters and her three dogs. She loves to read, craft, refinish furniture and read decorating magazines.
